About Us

For nearly 50 years, Safe Berks has been a beacon of hope and safety in Berks County, providing lifesaving services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Our journey began in 1976, when a group of twelve visionary women came together to address the urgent need for support services in our community. Today, we continue their legacy, offering shelter, counseling, legal assistance, and education to thousands of survivors each year.

At Safe Berks, we believe in fostering a community where everyone feels safe, valued, and empowered to stand up to oppression. Our mission is not only to support survivors but also to educate and advocate for systemic change, ensuring that future generations can live free from violence.

Our work is guided by the belief that everyone deserves to live without fear. We know that true safety involves more than just physical protection—it includes emotional, spiritual, and psychological well-being. That’s why our services are holistic, addressing the full spectrum of needs for those we serve.

We Believe in A Collaborative Approach

Safety for All

Ensuring the safety of every individual in our community is at the core of our mission. We provide comprehensive services, including emergency shelter, legal advocacy, and counseling, to protect and empower survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Community Engagement

Safe Berks actively involves local communities through education and advocacy. We work together with community members, schools, and organizations to spread awareness, prevent abuse, and foster a culture of respect and inclusion.

Empowerment and Education

Education is a powerful tool in the fight against violence. At Safe Berks, we are committed to empowering survivors and educating the community to break the cycle of abuse. Through workshops, training programs, and outreach efforts, we strive to create lasting change.

Real People. Real Impact.

At Safe Berks, we believe that safety, dignity, and respect are fundamental rights for every individual. Our work is guided by the understanding that everyone deserves to live free from fear and harm. Whether through our emergency shelter, legal advocacy, or educational programs, we strive to empower survivors and prevent violence in our community.

Without safety, the potential for growth and healing is limited. Our efforts to provide a secure environment and compassionate support enable survivors to reclaim their lives, seize new opportunities, and build a brighter future. The impact of our work is seen in the lives changed and the hope restored for countless individuals and families.
Without peace, development gains do not hold. Without peace, delivering humanitarian aid risks further suffering. Without peace, people have more difficulty exercising agency, seizing opportunity, and realizing their full potential
